In 2014, I started working with a Pure Water Company in Asonkore. I worked there for about six to eight months before receiving admission to further my education. After making all the necessary payments, I returned to work since the school term had not yet begun.
The owner assured me that she would support me, so I continued working with her.
Two weeks after my admission, on a fateful Tuesday morning, we were returning from a sales trip to prepare for another when we had an accident. Despite my repeated pleas for the driver to slow down due to his high speed, he did not heed my warnings. Our KIA vehicle collided with a private car, causing our vehicle to somersault. I lost consciousness and later found myself lying on the ground, unable to feel any part of my body.
We were rushed to Brahabebome SDA Hospital, but due to the severity of my condition, they referred me to Komfo Anokye Hospital (KATH). Initially, we were told there were no beds available, so we had to wait until the next morning. At KATH, we were required to make a deposit of GHS 6,500 for the surgery. My parents did not have that amount immediately, so my father returned to Obuasi to gather the funds and came back the following day with the money. I underwent surgery and spent about ten months recovering in the hospital, finally returning to Obuasi around May 2015.
A lawyer attempted to help me claim my insurance coverage, but the owner of the Pure Water Company falsely stated that I was a mate, which disqualified me from receiving the insurance payout. We were later informed that only GHS 500 was recorded in the insurance books for me, which angered my parents, and we eventually gave up on the claim.
During this challenging period, Naana Donkor Arthur, the founder of NDA Charity, heard about my plight. She mobilized funds through her social media platforms, raising a total of GHS 15,000 to support my recovery. Her generous assistance provided crucial support when we needed it the most.
